Ed Brown Performance Magazines
The single best upgrade for your 1911.
Many feeding and slide-lock problems begin with the magazine. A properly engineered magazine must feed every round, lock the slide open, and leave the pistol cleanly.
Built around function
Start with the tube. Engineer everything that follows.
Magazine reliability is the result of several parts working together: a rigid tube, caliber-specific feed-lip geometry, controlled follower movement, and enough spring force to feed and engage the slide stop consistently.
Tube and feed lips
The 0.025-inch 410 stainless tube is heat treated, TIG welded, and polished inside and out. Feed-lip geometry is matched to the caliber rather than shared across every version.
Steel follower
The heat-treated steel follower uses an extended front skirt and a low-friction finish to support feeding and full slide-stop engagement after the final round.
Purposeful spring force
A heavy-duty spring supplies the upward force needed for controlled feeding and positive operation. Springs remain service parts and should be inspected as magazines are used.
Three-in-one configuration
Set the base for the pistol.
Most fixed-base Ed Brown magazines include thin and thick bumper pads with the required screws. Choose the setup that matches the pistol and its use.
- Flush: the lowest profile for a pistol without a magwell.
- Thin pad: added protection and easier seating with little added length.
- Thick pad: additional length for positive insertion and extraction through a magwell.

Design explained
Why the details matter.
John May of Ed Brown walks through the tube, follower, spring, caliber-specific capacity, base-pad choices, maintenance, and Magazine Exchange Program with Honest Outlaw.

The discussion explains that a magazine must feed cartridges, lock the slide open after the last round, and leave the pistol cleanly when released. John describes the heat-treated 410 stainless tube, polished interior, steel follower, and strong spring used to support those functions. He explains why magazine geometry and capacity differ by caliber, including the decision to use a controlled nine-round 9mm stack. He also demonstrates the flush, thin-pad, and thick-pad options supplied with most fixed-base magazines, and notes that magazines and springs should be inspected and maintained as they are used. The conversation concludes with the Ed Brown Magazine Exchange Program.
