The collection
A direct connection to Ed’s life and work.
Over his lifetime, Ed Brown collected fine firearms and one-of-a-kind pieces—not only Ed Brown Custom rifles and Ed Brown 1911s, but work from other makers as well. His collection also included ammunition, reloading equipment and components, knives, artwork, and other personal items.
The Brown family is selectively offering pieces from that collection. Each item includes a letter certifying it as an authentic piece from Ed Brown’s personal collection, signed by a Brown family member.

Before purchasing
Questions and inspection period.
We make every effort to photograph and describe each item accurately and welcome specific questions before purchase. While we are experts on Ed Brown handguns, we are not necessarily experts on every other item that may be listed.
Each purchase includes a three-day physical inspection period. If you are not satisfied, notify us by email within three days of receiving the item for return instructions. After the item is received in the same condition in which it was delivered, a full refund minus shipping charges will be provided. Shipping in both directions is the buyer’s responsibility.
1946–2024
The man behind the name.
We at Ed Brown Products were deeply saddened by the passing of our founder and industry icon, Ed Brown.
Ed passed away at his home on September 15, 2024, after an intense battle with aggressive liver cancer. He was born on December 13, 1946, and was survived by his wife, whom he married on November 27, 1965, as well as their three children and six grandchildren.
Brown’s Gun Shop
Ed received his FFL and began working as a part-time gunsmith in 1968 under the name Brown’s Gun Shop. For 20 years, he developed his skill and reputation during evenings and weekends while working by day as a tool and die maker, CNC programmer, and CAD/CAM designer.
Competition informed the work
Ed began shooting IPSC and Bianchi Cup competition in 1980 and became a world-ranked championship combat shooter. What he learned as a shooter directly informed what he made as a pistolsmith.
From components to complete firearms
Ed Brown Products, Inc. incorporated in June 1992 to manufacture 1911 components and accessories. In 1998, after the company was manufacturing all the major components of the 1911, Ed’s sons Travis and Wade joined full time. The family began developing complete Ed Brown firearms, including its own 1911 frame and slide.
Kobra Carry and the Ed Brown Bobtail®
The Kobra Carry was introduced in 2000 with stainless construction, the snakeskin treatment, and the Ed Brown Bobtail®, which Ed had designed and trademarked. The configuration went on to influence the broader 1911 market.
Dealers, rifles, and growth
The family established a selective authorized dealer network while Ed pursued the M-702 and later M-704 controlled-feed bolt actions. Strong 1911 demand drove years of growth. Ed retired in 2010, and the rifle company was later sold so the family could maintain its focus and quality standards.
The work continues
After Ed’s retirement, the company continued developing the EVO Series, Ed Brown Performance 1911 magazines, and new interpretations of the 1911 platform. In 2025, the Kobra Carry marked 25 years in continuous production. The Brown family continues the work Ed began in 1968.
