Our approach to custom

Freedom without guesswork.

A useful custom pistol is not a random collection of options. It begins with a proven Ed Brown foundation, then changes where your intended use, preferences, or sense of proportion call for something different.

The configurator explains the available choices as you go. Use an established model or a past build for direction, then combine the details into a pistol that is recognizably yours.

Three groups of decisions

Build from the inside out.

The form presents each choice in sequence and provides additional guidance wherever the tradeoffs deserve explanation.

01

Choose the foundation.

Begin with frame material, caliber, slide length, frame treatment, and slide configuration—the decisions that establish the pistol’s basic character.

02

Set up the gun.

Select the safeties, controls, trigger, sights, barrel, and recoil system around how the pistol will be carried, handled, and shot.

03

Make it yours.

Finish with coating, grips, slide treatments, engraving, and details such as the Ed Brown Bobtail® or magwell configuration.

Before you begin

Know the purpose. Let the details follow.

You do not need every answer before opening the configurator. It helps, however, to begin with the role the pistol will serve.

  • Decide whether the priority is carry, general use, hard use, or exhibition-level finish.
  • Use each “Help Me Choose” explanation when a choice is unfamiliar.
  • Watch the calculated price as options are added or changed.
  • Use the Special Instructions field for a request the listed options do not fully capture.
  • Submit the completed configuration for Ed Brown review.
Custom Build configurator

Configure your 1911.

Work through the selections in order. The running price reflects the choices made in the form; the submitted configuration will be reviewed before the build proceeds.

After you submit

We review the complete configuration.

Custom Build brings the choices together. The next step is making certain those choices work together as intended.

01

Your selections arrive together.

The configuration, calculated price, contact information, and special instructions are submitted as one request.

02

We check the details.

Ed Brown reviews the requested combination and follows up if a selection needs clarification or adjustment.

03

You receive the next steps.

Once the configuration is confirmed, we provide the information needed to move forward with the build.
