CUSTOM BARREL

A 416 stainless, button-rifled match barrel, with 1-10 twist and 11° target crown. Customized with our own Ed Brown Tread Flutes and available in Black Nitride, Titanium Nitride or the "Spectrum" multi-colored finish to give it flash under the hood. Our match barrel with traditional rifling will digest jacketed and lead bullets alike, with exceptional accuracy and reliability. To make sure we have included it all, it comes equipped with ½ x 28 threads and a custom thread protector, making it fully suppressor ready.

CUSTOM SIGHTS

Topping off the slide are the Ameriglo Pro-Glo tritium front sight, and plain black rear, both in suppressor ready height to make them co-witness with Trijicon’s RMR reflex sight. Optional Trijicon RMR Type 2 tested and approved reflex sight. The 3.25 MOA dot is perfect for handgun use and its long life makes it ideal for use on the range, or for daily carry. It is simple to adjust and natural to use, quickly becoming an essential option by today’s standards.

Intro 0:00 good morning my name is Seth i spent 0:03 over a decade in special operations and 0:05 I'm Tyler i spent over a decade in 0:07 special operations and at the Army 0:09 marksmanship chip unit and today we are 0:11 going to evaluate the Smith and Wesson 0:14 M&P 2.0 Ed Brown Fueled series at the 0:17 We'll do a range day and then come back 0:19 and chat about it and as a comparison we 0:22 have a bone stock M&P 2.0 you know uh as 0:25 a standard Range Day 0:30 i can see why Ed Brown chose Smith and 0:32 Wesson for their 0:34 canvas the the the brake and the reset 0:37 and everything is a good base to start 0:39 with but this thing this thing this this 0:41 one's a whole another level but that's 0:42 just my take on this stock one the the 0:45 the trigger feels like plastic on 0:47 plastic kids toy yep 0:52 i see what they were trying to do i feel 0:54 like I mean they're trying to keep a 0:55 certain price point for sure so the 0:57 materials aren't going to 1:02 be without 1:04 compromise this is the stock M&P 1:08 [Music] 1:12 [Applause] 1:14 2.0 still relatively accurate yeah it's 1:16 pretty accurate 1:27 [Music] 1:36 [Music] 1:40 that's about 1 inish at 10 m 1:45 now some of this is going to be the 1:47 product of being a with a dot on there 1:51 [Music] 2:06 but that's about a/ inch tighter group 2:08 at 10 m on a five round group 2:13 [Music] 2:22 [Music] 2:26 should I do the same thing with that one 2:28 yeah see if you notice any recoil 2:29 difference cuz to me just the only 2:31 difference is going to be less mass on 2:33 this one than that one by probably not a 2:37 whole lot but you might notice it okay 2:44 notice anything i felt like this one 2:46 recoiled slightly better 2:50 felt like it it handled better maybe 2:52 with the increased weight it keeps the 2:55 muzzle from rising as snappy 3:03 [Applause] 3:16 [Applause] 3:19 i see what you mean so I think the the 3:21 less reciprocating mass gives a more 3:23 snappy recoil i think it returns faster 3:27 because there's less momentum that you 3:29 have to bring back down so I think it's 3:31 probably just a shooter preference of 3:32 how you like to do that plus whatever 3:34 load you're shooting cuz if you're 3:35 shooting competitions they're going to 3:37 be loading them down as much as they can 3:40 but still meeting the power factor they 3:42 have to i felt like there was a slight 3:44 difference this one stayed on target 3:46 slightly better yeah yeah which is 3:49 probably better suited to like 3:50 Winchester White 3:54 Box interesting that's not even a whole 3:57 lot of weight they cut out of this but 3:58 it's definitely noticeable 4:05 dude wait till you try this in 4:08 comparison to the two Ed Brown 4:13 [Music] 4:26 guns yeah i mean it still runs good for 4:29 a little gun but there's you got a 4:31 holder down yeah so we spent about an Gear Review and Performance Breakdown 4:34 hour long range session with these guns 4:36 and 4:37 uh I've got to say this Ed Brown version 4:41 of this Smith and Wesson M&P is above 4:44 and beyond what I expected it's hands 4:46 down the best striker fire gun I've ever 4:49 touched um couple of the features that 4:51 stood out the most to me were the 4:54 trigger for one that's the best striker 4:56 fired trigger I've ever touched the uh 4:59 accuracy was enhanced above and beyond a 5:03 stock M&P as would be expected with a an 5:06 Ed Brown product and then the lock up 5:09 between the slide and the frame was way 5:13 better than any stock striker fired gun 5:15 because they went in and remachineed or 5:18 machined new pieces in there that slide 5:20 on the uh have the rails of the slide um 5:24 reciprocate on um 5:28 ergonomics 5:29 are the same as a a Smith and Wesson M&P 5:32 but better because the frame is aluminum 5:36 the grip panels are uh have a more 5:40 aggressive 5:41 texture and the slide cuts 5:45 were I think just right as far as 5:48 aggressiveness and not being too 5:53 um too textured where it was hanging up 5:55 on a holster or your clothing or 5:57 anything like that 6:00 yeah we didn't have an opportunity to 6:01 test on different holsters but I do 6:04 think I I agree with you the the 6:06 tolerances typically historically I've 6:09 been a bolt gun guy 6:11 and this the tolerances on this upper 6:15 mating up to the lower it feels custom 6:18 for sure compared to most stock pistols 6:21 that I've shot and used it uh I do agree 6:25 with you that the the trigger was a an 6:28 upgrade they they clearly started with 6:31 a good frame to begin with i did like 6:36 this stock in 2.0 6:39 um but this Ed Brown version clearly has 6:45 a an upgraded trigger and it 6:49 uh it it the accuracy even at you know 6:52 that minimal distance at 10 m a half 6:55 inch shot 2in groups and it was a/ inch 6:58 better with the Ed Brown same ammunition 7:00 same distance same it 7:03 uh 7:04 clearly you're you're upgrading yeah for 7:08 sure i mean like if you were going to 7:10 choose 7:11 a full-size duty 7:13 pistol for anything whether it's 7:15 protecting your own house or if you were 7:18 using this professionally like this is 7:20 the one I would choose hands down it's 7:22 like Ed Brown learned a whole lot about 7:24 their 1911 engineering and brought it to 7:27 a striker fired platform with all of the 7:31 best features that they know how to do 7:33 so this isn't shocking that Ed Brown 7:35 made a really awesome M&P but it's a 7:38 treat to shoot that's for sure and 7:41 surprisingly I didn't 7:43 notice much of any of a weight 7:46 difference the Ed 7:48 Brown has a larger grip 7:55 feels solid in the hand and did not have 8:00 a noticeable weight difference between 8:03 the standard M 2.0 mhm and the slide on 8:07 the Ed Brown is like roughly an eighth 8:09 of an inch longer it has an aluminum 8:12 frame versus a polymer on the stock one 8:15 it has magwell it's got an optic on it 8:18 it's got a threaded barrel so there's an 8:20 additional half inch of of steel there 8:23 and it's still an iniccernable 8:24 difference in weight between the polymer 8:27 frame stock M&P and the uh Fueled series 8:32 so obviously there's a price difference 8:34 between these two but I feel after all 8:38 of the things that Ed Brown's done to 8:40 this gun I mean from the match grade 8:42 barrel to the match grade trigger new 8:44 sights 8:46 uh better grips texture aluminum frame I 8:50 mean custom 8:51 extractor it's I think still a great 8:55 value at right around $2,000 without an 8:57 opic like I would pay 3,000 for this 9:00 without an opic yeah i mean quality they 9:03 did i I think they started with the 9:06 right frame i've got a multitude of 9:08 pistols and this Smith and Wesson M2.0 9:11 is a is a good pistol mhm i mean they 9:16 put the proper materials into it but you 9:20 are getting upgrades with this pistol 9:21 from everything you mentioned you know 9:23 to include the uh retextured grips the 9:27 extended uh 9:29 magwell 9:31 the optic is clearly uh it's an upgrade 9:36 and you're getting what you pay for for 9:38 sure yeah yeah i mean you and I both 9:40 grew up in the army trusting cheap black 9:44 guns and they did their job most of the 9:47 time most of the time but we just we 9:48 went to the range and fired 300 rounds 9:51 through these pistols and never had a 9:53 single failure to feed misfire failure 9:57 to eject slide lock reload zero issues i 10:01 mean that's a product also of the like 10:04 the extreme 10:05 uh fine machining for like the feed ramp 10:08 the extractor the chamber all of that 10:11 stuff all come all builds into the 10:13 reliability of this gun 10:15 and you know I have I have a 10:19 uh I have a love for cheap black pistols 10:24 but because it's a safety blanket that 10:26 I've grown to trust but these things are 10:29 the best version of that kind of gun for 10:31 sure so I'm happy Ed Brown actually put 10:33 their put their brain power and 10:35 engineers on enhancing a striker fired 10:39 pistol to their level yeah I agree with 10:42 you and it when you pick up this pistol 10:45 uh it is built solid and ready for abuse 10:51 mhm you know from the aluminum frame to 10:55 the milled steel upper it feels like 10:59 it's it's 11:00 ready ready to be used hard yeah I like 11:03 it yeah I would have confidence in this 11:06 gun for sure and while you're getting a 11:10 you know on face value this is a Smith 11:13 and Wesson M&P this is a whole another 11:16 animal and so whether you like a stock 11:19 M&P or not you should evaluate this one 11:22 as like a completely separate gun from 11:26 the line of products that Smith and 11:27 Wesson puts out themselves the 11:29 combination of all of these 11:31 modifications and new parts that Ed 11:33 Brown has put into this is greater than 11:36 the sum of their parts so it's a whole 11:38 new whole new animal compared to a stock 11:42 M&P and you know what's interesting 11:44 about these is the level of quality 11:47 brought to a like a combat pistol 11:49 essentially is the level of guns twice 11:52 this price that Ed Brown puts out so 11:54 it's got essentially matchgrade quality 11:58 parts performance all in a tactical 12:01 pistol which is kind of a rare thing 12:03 absolutely i mean I was impressed even 12:06 there was at the the level of detail 12:09 that was put into almost every aspect of 12:12 the pistol even when I disassembled it I 12:15 noticed that there 12:17 were slight arterial notches in the 12:20 thread protector that somebody took the 12:22 time to intentionally put that there you 12:24 know they got a fluted barrel like 12:27 they've put a lot of thought and 12:30 attention to detail into 12:33 producing this pro shop level pistol 12:38 yeah and it's I mean usually in match 12:40 grade pistols or any kind of gun the 12:43 tolerances are so tight that your 12:45 reliability goes down in order to 12:47 achieve that kind of accuracy but that's 12:48 not the case here this is a truly 12:51 reliable combat pistol with matchgrade 12:54 performance so having shot both of these 12:57 what do you think about the trigger 12:59 impressed my initial reaction was well 13:02 this is what you would expect on a 13:04 standard Mhm factory pistol mhm 13:08 [Music] 13:10 the smoothness and the the break on this 13:13 Ed Brown pistol was what you would 13:16 expect from a high-end pistol i I 13:18 thought it was uh 13:21 super you know it had a clean break i 13:25 thought that you know you were able to 13:27 run it quick had a great reset and it 13:30 was fluid yep i like that on a striker 13:34 fired gun you can still feel the reset 13:36 on this trigger and it's crisp but it's 13:39 not heavy it was not heavy no it's it's 13:43 a really And there's almost no overt 13:44 travel so they did a really good job 13:47 working up the geometry on all these uh 13:49 trigger parts 13:51 yeah the reset was not aggressive but 13:52 you were able to run it effectively mhm 13:55 yeah your split times will be fast if 13:56 you're running competitions with this 13:58 thing uh so the exact pistols we have 14:01 here today uh they're both the M&P 14:04 Fueled series by Ed Brown but this is 14:06 the 14:08 uh the tactical version and that one 14:10 there is the match version the only 14:12 difference being the slide cut there's a 14:16 void in this slide right here that 14:18 allows for a little bit less 14:20 reciprocating mass during recoil changes 14:23 the balance of the pistol slightly um 14:26 what I noticed in the performance 14:29 difference between these two pistols is 14:31 since there's a little bit more mass up 14:32 front on this 14:33 pistol it dulls the recoil of heavier 14:36 bullets a little bit better and that one 14:39 snaps a little bit harder but it resets 14:41 quicker so it depends on what you are 14:45 looking for as a shooter between the two 14:46 but everything else is is the same it's 14:48 got the the tread pattern fluted barrel 14:52 that Ed Brown is famous for 14:55 and like Ed Brown is known for their 14:58 heirloom quality 1911s and a bunch of 15:02 variations of them this is in my opinion 15:04 the first heirloom quality striker gun 15:07 I've known about so that's pretty cool 15:11 so having shot quite a few of other of 15:13 the other Ed Brown pistols like the 15:16 1911s their aesthetics they have on 15:19 those guns are fantastic and they've 15:22 brought some of those 15:25 um skills to this combat gun and while 15:29 you know aesthetics are not the primary 15:32 reason you would buy a combat gun it is 15:36 somewhat important that attention to 15:38 detail was was brought to this uh this 15:41 pistol and I mean even down to the tread 15:46 pattern fluted barrel i mean it's 15:50 they've gone above and beyond in every 15:51 category agreed you can tell that that 15:53 like like I said before the the detail 15:57 and the 15:59 intentional upgrades that they've made 16:01 to this pistol while you know it is at 16:04 the end of the day shooter preference 16:06 you know if you want to have a pro shop 16:10 gun this is this is a very very good 16:14 platform i I think it it looks good it 16:16 shoots good it feels good um 16:20 it's reliable i'm impressed 16:24 yeah and then 16:26 also on the Ed Brown website you can 16:29 choose options of with or without an 16:30 optic um their option for optic is a 16:35 Trigicon RMR which is a great choice 16:37 made in the USA as is everything that Ed 16:40 Brown does and it's extremely rugged and 16:43 reliable optic for this P platform and 16:46 then Ed Brown has also paired it with I 16:49 think the correct height iron sights so 16:52 you can actually shoot the iron sights 16:53 through the glass of the RMR without 16:55 interfering with the dot so I think they 16:59 did a great job with that 17:02 the iron sights on this Ed Brown model 17:05 are upgraded as well if you've got the 17:08 financial capacity to buy one of these I 17:11 think you'd be silly not to me 17:13 personally I try not to buy a lot of the 17:18 same thing i try to buy one thing that's 17:20 really good whether it's vehicles 17:22 chainsaws guns you name it this is 17:26 something that I would invest in for a 17:29 performance pistol yep and if I were to 17:32 be asked by a friend to either confirm 17:36 or deny a endorsement of this I would 17:40 say they if they did not like it there's 17:42 something wrong with 17:44 them agreed

Five months ago I purchased your Kobra Carry California model and I have shot just under 1,000 rounds in the pistol without any failures of any kind. I have owned 45’s since 1970 and all were brand name production weapons that gave me shot groups of 3 to 3.75 inches. I got used to these large groups and was satisfied with how these production pistols performed. That is until I got your Kobra Carry. I have shot 1.75 inch groups consistently with the Kobra and have produced more keyhole shot groups with this pistol than any other gun that I have owned.

I am an active duty Marine Captain nearing the end of my active service. As an "end of service" gift to myself I decided on a Ed Brown Special Forces Light Rail. I have always been a 1911 fan and have owned others over the years but this is my first Ed Brown. After 38 years of shooting, former law enforcement, tournament shooter and NRA instructor, the Ed Brown Kobra is the finest semi-automatic I have ever fired. The Kobra on two range sessions digested 400 hundred rounds of 230 grain Magtech, 200 rounds of 230 grain reloads and 50 rounds of 230 grain Golden Saber function was 100% with all loads. The Kobra's first magazine fired all but 1 round in the same whole obviously the shooter not the gun. I want to thank you for making such a fine quality weapon and the only thing I wish you had an option for white dot sights due to my old eyes do not see night sights very well.

I purchased the Special Forces without the benefit of seeing or handling it in person. I was a bit worried about doing this but took the plunge anyway. This is my third, high-end 1911, and by far the best. I am extremely detail-oriented and anal-retentive, and for the life of me, I cannot find any flaws in either the finish or fitting of parts. It has been tastefully dehorned without losing the classic lines and the slide moves back and forth extremely smoothly. Furthermore, while the bushing is tight, I can remove it without tools. I destroyed two plastic bushing wrenches, and then had to order a metal wrench, to finally remove the bushing off a Les Baer. You have demonstrated that a 1911 can be fit well without being excessively tight. I cannot wait to shoot it.

I have dabbled with many 1911s over the past decade, some have been pretty good, but most left me somehow dissatisfied. So I set out to trade several of them in for a high end quality 1911. I recently purchased a Kobra Carry and it functions beyond my expectations. I put every kind of 45 acp ammunition through it and it performed flawlessly. Over the past 35 years, I have owned guns from various other manufacturers, and they are all good products. As to the performance of your pistol, all I can say is "wow"! No malfunctions occurred. For it's size, it is very pleasant to control and any muzzle flip expected was never an issue. Most of the higher end guns seem to have very aggressive checkering which actually hurts the shooter's hand, eventually. I never felt as if I was lacking any gripping ability with your pistol and the style of your checkering was far more comfortable. I never had to reset my grip while shooting. The accuracy of your pistol is outstanding. With a firm two handed offhand grip, I can tear one hole, shot after shot. Magazine after magazine never brought the gun's temperature even close to an uncomfortable level to operate. I like the fact that I can even detail strip your pistol, if need be, without any tools except for the ambi safety. Most guns this accurate require bushing wrenches, allen wrenches, etc. to detail strip them, even to only field strip most of them. I am prior service Army Special Forces and appreciate a well laid out pistol. Your Kobra Carry appears to be the best possible job anyone could do to improve on a Commander style pistol, and in my opinion so far, the fit, finish, and quality will soon have me buying another one. I had a high grade handgun ordered from one of your competitors, but I am going to change my down payment money over to a second Kobra Carry. The extra work, care, and superior material quality is evident in your product over theirs. Initially I was also hesitant in buying your Kobra Carry initially due to the Bobtail grip, which I had never tried. After handling and shooting it, it kind of grows on you and I now I prefer it. The pistol points a little more naturally with it and the sharp corner of the grip against my hand is not really missed. Good job!

How do I perform basic disassembly, reassembly, and maintenance of my Ed Brown 1911?

Today I’m going to go ahead and walk you through a real basic field stripping of your 1911. First thing you want to remember is go ahead and get your safety glasses on. We’ve got a lot of Springs in the gun that are under tension.

The next thing you’re going to want to do is remove the magazine from the gun and double-check and make sure that there’s not any rounds in the chamber. First thing that I like to do is pull the slide back so that lines up with the
disassembly notch.

Once you’ve got that lined up you can reach in from the other side, and push it out like so, and then just pull that out, and that’s your slide stop. You’ll notice I’m holding the gun just like this I can handle all the tension of that slide. I can hold it exactly where I want and I’ve still got one hand that’s totally free.

This next step is kind of important. You want to go ahead and ease that slide forward and as you start to push it off the frame you want to have your hand here to control that recoil spring so it doesn’t just go jumping out on you.

As you slide the frame off, go ahead and squeeze hold of that recoil spring keep it from jumping out. Set the frame down, and as you can see I’ve got that spring captured right here with my left hand and this is kind of a crucial point because that spring is really wanting to jump out of there.

All you got to do then is I just use my right hand to go ahead and control that as it comes out of there, and just control it as it’s coming out of there.

Next thing comes out gonna go ahead and pull out your recoil spring plug, set that to the side and then you can just give your barrel a little twist and it comes right out the front there.

And that’s all there is to it.

This is an alternate method for disassembly, and when your Ed Brown firearm if you want to you can use an Ed Brown bushing wrench, and stand your gun up like so.

Depress your plug twist the bushing and remove the plug first once you’ve got the plug out of the way you can ease the slide back to the disassembly notch remove your slide stop.

Pull your slide off your frame then remove your recoil spring, guide, barrel, and bushing.

Okay now that we’ve got the firearm all disassembled, I’ll go over a couple of quick cleaning tips with you. What I like to do is get you a cleaning rag, any rag will do, doesn’t have to be fancy or anything.

Then I’m gonna grab some Ed Brown firearm lubricant. You can get that off of our website or call the office and order that.

You just put a little bit on a rag here. First place I start with, the frame, there’ll be a lot of unburned powder residue down on all these little crevices. I usually go ahead and wipe all those off with a rag. It’s all you really need is just an oily rag to wipe this stuff off, you don’t need to get too aggressive with it.

Take the slide clean off the breach face right here and there’s a couple of little nooks and crannies up in here, or I like to usually use the corners of the rags to kind of get down in there and wipe anything off.

Next step is go ahead and take your barrel and use your rag to wipe off any any unburned powder residue or anything on the exterior of the barrel and then I’d also go ahead and put a couple of drops on a bore mop and scrub that just give it a few swabs, just so I can get any unburned powder or get any wet residue or anything like that out of there.

Now we’ll begin the reassembly procedure. Gonna want to go ahead and just slide your barrel in from the front like so. Make sure that your link is in the forward position there. Go ahead and get your bushing into position, it’ll go in just like that, and then you just give it a quick little twist to go ahead and line that up. Let your barrel slide back into engagement.

Next step is take your plug, I usually just go ahead and slide that in from the back like so. you’ll see it goes ahead and lines up with the bushing perfect.

Next thing that I want to do is make sure that this link is backwards like that, the barrel is going totally back as far as it’ll go. I take my recoil spring recoil spring guide and insert a recoil spring into the back of the plug there,
there’s a little half circle cut out here on the bottom of your recoil spring guide that needs to be on the rounded portion of the barrel right here. It’s a little tough to do but just compress that all the way in there and hold it like so once you’ve got that recoil spring captured just like that, I grab my frame and slide that on to the slide. Once the dust cover makes contact with my middle finger I go ahead and release that finger, slide it on a little bit more, then I release with my ring finger, slide it on a little bit more. Once it hits my pinky, slide it on the rest of the way.

Once you’ve got to slide on the frame, push the slide back, take your slide stop, and I go ahead and slide that in and then put that right underneath your slide stop plunger. Pull the slide back till the slide stop notch (I’m sorry
the disassembly notch) lines up with the bottom of the slide stop there. Push it up and in ease your slide forward and your gun is reassembled and ready to go.

Basically you would start with your slide, insert your barrel, twist your bushing all the way around like so. Slide your recoil spring and recoil spring guide. Make sure that your link is in the up position, and the half round cut out on your recoil spring guide is on the rounded portion of your barrel. Then go ahead and slide that on to your frame.

Once you’ve got that on, line up your disassembly notch and go ahead and insert your slide stop, and lock that into position.

Now take your plug, and set that on top of your recoil spring, and for this part I’m going to go ahead and have to pull a gun back here into my lap so I can control everything up close like this.

You basically have to take this bushing wrench push your plug all the way down into position and then give your bushing a little twist with your bushing wrench until it lines up and pops back out.

Once you’ve got that into position everything is lined up perfectly, you’re back in action and ready to go.

Now that your Ed Brown firearm is all reassembled I’ll go ahead and go over a couple of lubricating steps with you. First thing I like to do whenever I get to the range or whenever I’m done cleaning it or maybe before I put it away in the vault. Go ahead and lock your slide back with your slide stop notch then with the barrel pointed down towards the ground I’ll usually take the Ed Brown firearms lubricant and put a drop or two on each of the slide rails.

Next I hold the gun horizontal like this go ahead and put a drop or two on the end of the barrel. You’ll usually see a couple of scratches where your bushing locks up, then I usually go ahead nd put one or two more drops up here on the top of the barrel, then just go ahead and work it back and forth and kind of distribute that oil on the inside of the gun.

Then if I’m going to go ahead and put the gun back in the vault, I’ll usually take a rag with a little bit of the Ed Brown firearms lubricant on it and go ahead and just wipe down all the metal parts just to kind of go ahead and put little bit of oil on them and kind of protect them from any kind of corrosion or anything like that. And then you’re basically ready to go ahead and put it back in the vault or put it in the holster and go out to the range or whatever you’re going to want to do with it that day.

If your firearm is equipped with a two-piece guide rod, this is the additional step for disassembly.

Insert your 5/32 allen wrench into the corresponding notch, turn it counterclockwise, remove it from the gun, and from there continue to
disassemble using your preferred method.

After reassembly the one additional step for a two-piece guide rod is to lock the slide in the open position, re-insert your guide rod, and snug with your 5/32 allen wrench, and now you’re done.

If you’re converting your Ed Brown 1911 to a two-piece guide rod these are the parts that you’ll be exchanging: your recoil spring guide for the guide rod head, your recoil spring plug for the guide rod plug, then just re-assemble the firearm using your preferred method.

Due to the thin slide and heavy chamfer, the takedown notch is less visible on the Evo series.

Once you have located the takedown notch, pull back the slide to align the slide stop catch with the takedown notch in the slide. Control the top of the gun while pushing the slide stop pin out as far as possible from right to left, then pull it out completely. You can then proceed with the disassembly as shown at the beginning of this video.

We sell direct through our website and can ship to any FFL (Federal Firearms License) holder in your area, who will handle the transfer paperwork. What is your return policy?

The following sections explain in detail how to proceed should you need to return an item for any form of exchange, refund, or repair:

Return Merchandise Authorization Number (RMA#)
In order to process your return in the fastest way possible, an RMA# is REQUIRED to be on the outside of ANY returned package. Returns without an RMA# on the outside of the package will be refused. Contact us to get an RMA#. We will locate your customer record and purchase history in our system and provide you with a RMA# (return merchandise authorization number) for the item you would like to return. A sample return shipping label is provided below:

Contact us within 30 days of the invoice date to get your RMA#.
Return the wrong or defective item(s) back to us prepaid in the original packaging along with a note stating which item(s) you expected to receive.
We will process the return promptly. Any price difference will be charged or credited accordingly. Only new, unused parts will be accepted for exchange or refund, but we understand installation mistakes can happen, and are willing to sell you a replacement at a discount if you return the modified part. Returns for other reasons no fault of our own are subject to a 20% restock fee. Shipping charges are non-refundable.

Any Ed Brown Products, Inc. purchased through any of our dealers or distributors must be returned direct to them for any type of exchange or refund, subject to their stated return policy.

Firearms
Firearms may be sent direct to Ed Brown Products, Inc. (RMA# required) for evaluation or repairs, even if purchased from a dealer, and even if more than 30 days have passed since the date of purchase. Exchanges or refunds do not apply to firearms. Shipping and insuring high value firearms is expensive (the average is around $80) and the rules are complex. If you need to ship an Ed Brown firearm to our factory, use our Basic Service Package to get a huge discount on Round-trip shipping, and a shipping label emailed to you. Slides or parts only (except frames) may be sent via US mail, fully insured and prepaid. Please note that even a handgun frame only, is considered to be a firearm by ATF and common carriers. You can generally expect turnaround of less than two weeks for a firearm evaluation or repair.

Do you have a written warranty on your products?

Yes, we have a written warranty. If you ever need service on your Ed Brown firearm, we are here for you. It doesn’t matter what the reason is, how old it is, or whether you are the original owner. We never look for reasons to turn away service calls…if you’ve got an Ed Brown firearm and you have a problem, we are here to help you.

In addition to the excellent service we offer, effective April 10, 2007, all Ed Brown firearms include a legal written limited lifetime warranty as well. We are the only high end 1911 manufacturer to our knowledge who offers a legal written lifetime warranty on firearms, which demonstrates the confidence we have in our product. Anyone can claim their service is the best and most do), but to go a step further and put it in writing in a legal warranty is something that Ed Brown Products, Inc. does, and the others avoid.

All Ed Brown parts continue to be sold as is and without any legal written warranty. No liability is expressed or implied for incidental or consequential damage or injury which may result from the improper use or installation of any parts sold or produced by Ed Brown Products, Inc.. Our parts are intended to be installed by a qualified gunsmith, and parts and firearms sold by us are only intended for factory specification standard velocity ammunition. What is your privacy policy?

At Ed Brown Products, Inc., we hold the privacy and the security of our customers in the highest regard. To earn your trust, we respect your privacy in handling personally identifiable information relating to you and your transactions with us. What personally identifiable information does Ed Brown Products request, and what do you do with it?
Any information provided by a customer may be used to process your orders or requests and to identify you within our systems, such as your name, address, telephone number, or email address. We may use your contact information such as your email address or telephone number, to contact you if we have any questions about your order. We do not use your credit card information for any purpose beyond fulfilling your order.

Is ordering online secure?
The credit card information you enter on our website is strongly encrypted by industry standards. This encryption makes it extremely difficult for anyone to intercept and misuse your information while it is being transmitted to our secure server.

Once you have completed your order online, our security procedures do not end. We take extra precautions to protect the security and privacy of the information stored on our computers. The systems which store your credit card information for processing are not connected to the internet, reducing the likelihood of security breaches. Our systems are also housed in secure facilities, and access by our employees is limited to a “need to know” basis, and controlled by a password protected system.

What types of payment do you accept?

What is the delivery time on your firearms? Do you sell direct?

Do you accept trades, or sell any used Ed Brown firearms? What about “seconds”?

Please refer to our Trade-Up program. Our commitment to excellence and quality prohibits us from releasing any manufacturing “seconds” to our customers, though we do offer factory-certified trade-ins for sale that were traded in under our Trade-Up program.

Do you offer any special finishes or coatings on your firearms?

Yes, we offer our own Gen4 firearm coating. While this coating represents the fourth and latest evolution in coating technology, and offers superior rust protection and improved wear resistance over traditional bluing, we continue to advise that there is no coating currently available anywhere which never wears and keeps your gun looking like new forever. Gen4 coating is now standard on many of our handguns, and optional on other models. We also offer Gen4 coating on any previously purchased Ed Brown handgun.

Will you be exhibiting your products at any trade shows?

Annually we attend the industry SHOT show, held in Las Vegas, NV, booth #13409. The 2025 SHOT Show is scheduled for January 21-25. This is a dealer only show, and we attend for the purpose of spending face to face time with our dealers across the country, and to show them our new products. What type of accuracy are your handguns capable of at 50 yards? Which models are most accurate? Does a 1911 barrel/slide/frame fit have to be super tight to get the most accuracy possible?

Ed Brown guns are capable of producing the accuracy the highest quality ammunition is capable of. With a 45 ACP, this is about 1 1/2″ at 50 yards. A common misconception is that a gun has to be extremely tight to be accurate. What is required to reach the accuracy potential is consistent lock up of the critical components. Any tighter than zero movement is useless, and can only reduce reliability and detract from handling. It doesn’t have to be tight, it just has to be right.

There are no significant functional or quality differences in our handguns – each represents the best engineering, manufacturing, and craftsmanship we have to offer. They are divided into different models mainly because of cosmetic finishing differences and different features. Under extremely precise testing, the 5″ models are slightly more accurate than the 4.25″ models, however it is very difficult to notice any practical (handheld) difference.

How reliable are your handguns? Which models are the most reliable?

There are no significant functional or quality differences in our handguns – each represents the best engineering, manufacturing, and craftsmanship we have to offer. They are divided into different models mainly because of cosmetic finishing differences and different features. Under extremely precise testing, the 5″ models are more forgiving and inherently more reliable due to the additional slide travel, however it is very difficult to notice any difference with the 4.25″ models when handled properly.

How often should the recoil spring be replaced? What recoil spring is used in the Ed Brown 1911’s?

We recommend replacing the recoil spring every 3,000 rounds. Ed Brown 5″ Government models are equipped with an 16.5# recoil spring as standard (our part number 9165-G), while the 18# recoil spring (our part number 918-G) is generally preferred for heavier loads. Ed Brown 4.25″ Commander models are equipped with a 20# recoil spring (our part number 920-C). Flat wire recoil springs, used in the EVO series 4″ pistols, have a much longer service life.

Do guide rods increase accuracy? Do any of your handguns come with a guide rod?

Our Classic Custom pistols are furnished with two-piece guide rods. They smooth out the cycling slightly, add a bit of weight to the muzzle, and may increase the life of the recoil spring. They do not enhance the accuracy or reliability of the gun, therefore we do not include one with most series. If you would like to have a guide rod, they are a simple part to install as they drop right in. The two piece design is recommended, because it is so easy to disassemble and reassemble.

Why do you use a 9mm size firing pin in your handguns?

This prevents primer flow if hot loads are used and prevents a 45 ACP rim from hanging in the firing pin hole during the feeding cycle.

Are the handguns tested before they leave your facility?

We have what is probably the most extensive testing session of any firearms manufacturer. The gun is triple checked in different stages throughout the manufacturing process, and extensively test fired with a variety of ammunition before leaving our facility. Because of our commitment to quality and our investment in the latest manufacturing technology, we enjoy one of the lowest defect rates in the entire firearms manufacturing industry.

Is the serial number on my 1911 frame suppose to match the number inside the slide?

Some slides have numbers or letters stamped inside. These are lot codes for heat treating, not serial numbers. They have nothing to do with the serial number on your frame.

How are the fixed sights set up? What is the point of aim?

Ed Brown handguns with fixed sights are set to impact approximately point of aim 25 yards using Federal American Eagle 230 grain ammunition. Variation in grip, ammunition, or people’s eyes can affect the point of impact. If you feel the gun shoots too high or low for you based on the grip and ammunition you are comfortable with, we can custom install a higher or lower front sight at your request.

What type of ammunition do you recommend for your handguns?

We recommend high quality Nosler, Federal or Winchester ammunition. In our years of testing and experience, ammunition by these makers has proven to be of consistent high quality. We use Nosler ASP along with Federal FMJ & Winchester FMJ for our testing. For accuracy, the Federal 185 grain Gold Medal Match ammo tends to produce the best groups. For Self Defense ammo, we recommend Nosler ASP in both our .45 & 9MM pistols.

What is the difference between 70 and 80 series guns? Are Ed Brown handguns 70 or 80 series guns?

80 series guns have a firing pin block mechanism, while 70 series do not. If you aren’t sure which you have, 80 series parts will work in both series 70 and 80 with no negative effects. Ed Brown handguns are all series 70.

Do Ed Brown handguns have any MIM (metal injection molded) parts?

No, we use no MIM parts in Ed Brown firearms. While the current thinking is that MIM parts are “good enough” for firearm applications, this thinking doesn’t fit with our philosophy at all. All Ed Brown parts are made from either forgings or bar stock steel.

What is the trigger pull on your handguns?

The trigger pulls are set at a crisp 3.5 – 4.5 pounds that will last for thousands of rounds due to the fully machined components.

Do you recommend any particular type of lubrication?

Yes, we offer a special blend of synthetic oil (part #960) intended for the lubrication of Ed Brown 1911’s. It works perfectly with both stainless and blue steel, as well as our Gen4 coating. A bottle is included with all new firearms shipped, and you can purchase more direct from us.

What is the difference between stainless and blue steel? Does stainless steel gall?

Stainless steel is more rust resistant, and costs a little more. There is no other significant difference between the two with regard to any attribute of a 1911 – accuracy, longevity, durability, etc. are all virtually identical between the two. We have been building all stainless guns for many years from high quality 416 stainless steel and there are no problems with galling.

How do I get the maximum reliability out of my Ed Brown 1911? What are the fundamentals of 1911 handling?

The fundamentals are simple and easy. Like all fundamentals they are the source of most problems people experience.

Use high quality ammunition, such as Federal or Winchester.
Use high quality lubrication, and keep the firearm well lubricated and clean.
Maintain a firm grip on the firearm throughout the entire firing cycle. The 1911 is a recoil operated firearm.
Make sure your recoil spring is correctly matched to the ammunition you are shooting. When you have the proper weight recoil spring for a particular load, ejected brass should land 8-12 feet away. If brass is falling within a few feet of you, your spring is too heavy for that load. If brass lands more than about 12 feet away, your spring is too light for that load. Either case leads to reduced reliability. A common problem is a novice shooter trying to “shoot anything and everything” through his 1911 from 185 grains up to 230 grains without considering the proper recoil spring setup. Another common problem is the novice buying a carry gun with a shorter slide, then shooting the hottest personal protection ammo he can get, while ignoring the recoil spring and ejection pattern. For the ultimate in reliability, we recommend choosing a consistent high quality load and sticking with it once it’s proven to work well with your particular setup.
