Since 1968, that work has taken us from one gunsmith’s bench to a fully integrated American manufacturing operation—without losing the judgment and handwork that started it.
The work is the story.
We do not ask you to believe that an Ed Brown is different because we say so. The difference is visible in the work: the parts we engineer, the steel we machine, the hours spent fitting and finishing, the inspection and live-fire testing, and the service that follows the sale.
Nearly sixty years of specialization matters. It gives us a long memory for what works, the manufacturing depth to control the details, and a family name we intend to protect for another generation.
From one bench to complete firearms.
Ed Brown Products grew by solving real problems in the 1911—first as a gunsmith, then as a parts maker, and finally as a manufacturer of complete pistols.
Brown’s Gun Shop begins.
Ed Brown received his FFL and began working as a part-time gunsmith. By day he was a tool-and-die maker, CNC programmer, and CAD/CAM designer; nights and weekends were devoted to the 1911.
Better parts become the business.
Frustrated by the parts available to working pistolsmiths, Ed left his day job and committed full time to producing better-designed, better-made 1911 components.
Craft becomes manufacturing.
Ed was named Pistolsmith of the Year by his peers in 1991. The following year, Ed Brown Products, Inc. was incorporated to manufacture a complete line of 1911 parts and accessories.
The second generation joins.
Ed’s sons, Travis and Wade, joined the company full time. The family began the engineering, plant expansion, and development needed to manufacture complete Ed Brown 1911s.
The complete pistol evolves.
Ed Brown firearms reached dealers across the country. Continued investment in machining and product development led from the company’s traditional full-size pistols and the Kobra Carry to the smaller, 9mm-optimized KC9.
The third generation continues the work.
Ed Brown remains family owned in Perry, Missouri. The focus is clear: premium 1911s, proven 1911 parts, direct accountability, and steady improvement without abandoning what already works.

Modern equipment and skilled hands are not competing ideas here. Each does the work it is best suited to do.
Machined here.
Main components are engineered and precision machined in our Perry facility. Making the parts ourselves gives us direct control over materials, dimensions, consistency, and supply.
Fit by hand.
Precision machining creates the foundation. Experienced craftspeople fit, blend, finish, and assemble the pistol one at a time until the individual parts work as one gun.
Tested here.
Every finished pistol is inspected and live-fire tested before it leaves the factory. Quality is not complete until the gun proves itself as a complete system.
