Yes. Completed in-stock handguns and custom builds can be purchased directly from Ed Brown. A firearm must be shipped to a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) who is legally permitted to receive it and complete the transfer. Your receiving dealer may charge a separate transfer fee. See our Terms and Conditions and Restrictions before ordering.

Choose a local gun shop, sporting-goods store, or other FFL willing to receive the firearm and complete your transfer. We must receive and verify a current signed copy of the dealer’s FFL before shipment. Contact us if you need help with the process.

Completed in-stock pistols are the shortest path and can ship after payment, FFL verification, and required processing are complete. Custom-build and service timelines vary with the configuration, current production schedule, and work requested. Our Trade-Up Program lets an owner submit an Ed Brown handgun for evaluation toward another Ed Brown. Factory-certified trade-ins may be offered for sale when available. We do not sell manufacturing seconds.

Every current Ed Brown handgun is built to the same functional standards. Models differ mainly in size, features, finish, and intended use. Consistent lockup matters more than unnecessary tightness. A 5-inch pistol has slightly more sight radius and slide travel than a shorter model, but most shooters should choose based on use, handling, and preferred configuration.

Registration gives us the information needed to support your firearm and lets us provide its born-on date. Register a new or previously owned Ed Brown on our Registration page.

Yes. Ed Brown firearms include a written limited lifetime warranty, subject to its terms, exclusions, and claim procedures. Our Warranty page explains the coverage in plain language. The complete controlling warranty appears in the Ed Brown 1911 Handguns Owner’s Manual.

Start at the Service page. The Basic Service Package provides the current factory-return process and shipping arrangement. Contact us and obtain the required authorization before shipping any firearm. Never ship ammunition with a firearm.

Yes. Available work depends on the firearm and requested configuration. Use the 1911 Retro form for a traditional Ed Brown 1911 or the EVO Retro form for an EVO-platform pistol. We will review the firearm and obtain your approval before performing chargeable work.

A factory Letter of Authenticity can verify the serial number and original ship date. When records are available, it may also include the original destination, model details, factory options, service history, and current replacement value.

You can also download the Ed Brown 1911 Handguns Owner’s Manual directly. Read and follow the warnings and instructions before using the firearm, and keep the manual with it if ownership changes.

• Use clean, high-quality factory ammunition in the correct caliber.
• Use quality magazines.
• Keep the pistol properly cleaned and lubricated.
• Maintain a firm grip throughout the firing cycle.
• Use the correct recoil spring for the pistol and load.
• If a firearm does not function properly, stop using it and contact a qualified gunsmith or Ed Brown.

Replace a traditional coil recoil spring approximately every 3,000 rounds to maintain reliable operation. Flat-wire recoil springs generally provide substantially longer service life. The correct spring depends on pistol size, caliber, ammunition, and recoil system. Check the owner’s manual or contact us if you are unsure.

Use clean, dry, high-quality, commercially manufactured ammunition of the correct caliber and in good condition. Federal, Winchester, and Nosler loads have performed consistently in our testing. Prove any defensive load in your individual pistol before relying on it, and follow the ammunition and firearm manufacturers’ instructions.

Use a quality firearm lubricant and keep the bearing surfaces properly lubricated. Ed Brown firearm lubricant, part number 960, is formulated for our stainless, blue-steel, and Gen4-finished handguns. Follow the lubrication instructions in the owner’s manual.

Current Ed Brown handgun triggers are generally set within a crisp 3.5-to-4.5-pound range. The precise measurement can vary within that range.

No. Ed Brown firearms do not use metal-injection-molded parts. Our firearm components are machined from forgings or bar-stock steel according to the requirements of the part.

Ed Brown handguns use a Series 70-style system and do not use the Series 80 firing-pin-block mechanism.

The smaller firing pin helps prevent primer flow with high-pressure loads and reduces the possibility of a .45 ACP case rim hanging in the firing-pin opening during feeding.

Not necessarily. Numbers or letters stamped inside some slides are manufacturing or heat-treatment lot codes. They are not the firearm’s serial number.

A guide rod can alter the feel and add some muzzle weight, but it does not make the pistol inherently more accurate or reliable. Some configurations, including the Classic Custom, use a two-piece guide rod; most models do not require one.

Fixed-sight Ed Brown handguns are generally set for an approximate point-of-aim impact at 25 yards with the factory test ammunition. Ammunition, grip, vision, and shooting technique can change the observed point of impact. Contact us if your established setup consistently requires a sight-height adjustment.

Stainless steel provides greater resistance to rust and has a different appearance and cost. Properly manufactured stainless and blue-steel pistols are otherwise comparable in practical accuracy, longevity, and durability. Our stainless handguns are built from materials and fits intended to avoid galling problems.

Gen4 is Ed Brown’s current thermoset-polymer firearm coating. It was selected to provide corrosion protection, improved wear resistance over traditional bluing and earlier polymer finishes, and a refined matte appearance. It is available in Black, Stealth Grey, and Battle Bronze on applicable configurations.

Gen4 is durable, but no firearm finish is wear-proof. Holster contact, use, handling, and maintenance will eventually produce wear. Gen4 may also be available as factory service for a previously purchased Ed Brown handgun; see Service for the current options.

Yes. Every completed Ed Brown handgun is inspected during production and test fired before it leaves the factory. The purpose is straightforward: verify function and confirm that the completed pistol meets our requirements.

Contact Ed Brown before returning any item. A Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) and the provided return instructions are required. Firearm sales are not eligible for exchange or refund, although service and warranty rights may apply. Parts and other non-firearm returns are governed by the current Terms and Conditions.
